Details of Student’s Filed Study Report (2018-2019):

Name of Place: Titabor; Date of Visit: 08/05/2018

Objectives of visit: The main objective of the visit is to analyse the socio economic status of the farmers in Titabor areas. The study tries to analyse the impact of irrigation on farm income, productivity and cropping pattern.

Outcome:

Out of the total farms, 69% have land holding in between 1 hectare to 4 hectares. The average size of operational holdings of the farmers in villages is 2.4 hectares representing sufficient availability of land. Small holdings occupies the major part (68%) in the total operational holding followed by medium (14%), marginal (11%) and large holdings (6%).The result is seemed to be consistent with all Assam data. About 92% of sample farmers, had land on lease as part of their operational holding. The land leased in constituted more than half of the farmers of their operational holdings.

The productivity of each of the Rabi vegetables crops is slightly higher in irrigated field than that of none irrigated field. Considering both irrigated and non irrigated field, the average productivity is highest in case of winter local rice and lowest in case summer local rice. The productivity of winter HYV rice is exceptionally high 80.6 Qu/ha in small farms. Small farmers fully utilized the irrigation facilities. HYV winter rice is the key crop contributing highest 32% of total per hectare income in irrigated farms followed by cabbage with 18% per hectare income. This analysis indicated the positive and significant role of irrigation on farm income in marginal farms. Thus irrigated crops lead to greater productivity of Kharif crops, especially to HYV crops in marginal farms. But big farm operators do not tend to derive large share of repayment as compared to small farm operators and inter-personal inequalities have not got draw attention to with the spread of irrigation.
